This site is intended to help people cruising the Australian east coast , on an extended trip, hopping up to the next port for a few days break or just exploring their local area.
What’s different is the use of links to Google Earth to provide satellite views of marinas , harbours and other points of interest . If you don’t have Google Earth on your p.c. then download it (it’s free ) from Google. Please note, Google Maps is different – it’s Google Earth you need to download.
Click on this link which will take you via Google earth to Sydney Harbour Bridge .Get the idea? Depending on your internet connection you might need to wait 20-30 seconds for Google Earth to load and find the spot . After it’s loaded links will run quicker . You can also open up Google Earth first , minimise it and then activate the link .
The Google Earth view will allow you to see where the main features are and generally help you find your way around. For example, mooring areas and marinas can be identified, although the image may be several years old , often not too much has changed – just be sure to check for yourself . SEE DISCLAIMER BELOW.
We have started with information on the Sydney and Pittwater area and local marinas, as this is where many of us are and it’s also the most densely packed with facilities . Where there are beaches and tucked away anchorages we have included some of those too.
The pages have been left ‘open’ so that users can leave ‘a reply’ or comment : Whilst we will add as much basic information as we can,the idea is that site visitors can leave their own comments and local knowledge – For example, where to get fuel, repairs, food and drink and may be a supermarket or laundry.
There are a lot of services and contacts to eventually include and some pages only show the link as yet - but with time there will be detailed coverage up and down the coast.
You will also see a search-able classified services directory on a separate tab , so you can find a service quickly and easily.
To get the best from this site you really need Google Earth downloaded – however there are ‘fixed ‘ images of some facilities – so you don’t have to download anything to get a quick view of a Marina or harbour.
We hope you find the information in this site useful . Wishing you safe and enjoyable cruising ,
Malcolm Toon
